Finally, the tomatoes are beginning to ripen.

The two eggplant plants in the back row have taken off, but there are no blossoms yet. The cilantro has begun to flower, but the rest of the herbs are in good form for clipping to use for cooking.

When I bit into my first crop of tomatoes, they had a pasty, undesirable texture. Perhaps next summer, I should try some heirloom tomatoes, even though they may be too big for my pots.

I love the vibrant colors of the small, boutonnière zinnias that grew among the tomatoes. But the zinnia plants are almost too big. I don't know if I can keep both them and the tomato plants in the same containers.

The eggplant is almost too tall for the pot, so I rested it against the deck railing.
